Marriage Equality Debate Heats Up Minimize

Washington - May 8, 1900  - With election year politics on everyone's mind, the issue of Marriage equality is again a hot button issue, with several states recognizing civil marriage, but no official policy decision from Washington. Below are some excerpts from the current very reasonable debates in congress:

"Only God can sanction a marriage, not the state, if we have civil marriage we'll have Baptists marrying Lutherans, who knows where this will lead"

"Everyone has a right to marry whomever they want, we have separation of church and state, you can't impose your religious beliefs on everyone."

"This will demoralize our soldiers fighting overseas, plus it will lead to crazy things, like protestants marrying Catholics, just you wait and see."

"Why does it bother you what someone else is doing? What right do you have to tell others what to do?"

"The bible, Jesus was quite clear on what he thought of civil marriage, even though he didn't mention it. Marriage has always been between two white northern European protestants. At this rate people will marry athiests, or even Jews."

"All people are equal under the constitution, you cannot take away others' rights just because you don't like it."

"Yes I can, If this keeps up no one will get married, it won't mean anything if Catholics and Jews can marry anyone. Mark my words in a hundred years whites will end up marrying Negroes, or even Asians. Imagine a white marrying an Asian - the horror!"
